Diocesan Youth Ministry Facilitator: Jocelyn Czerwonka
Regional Youth Ministry Facilitators:
Bay of Plenty: Jo KeoganHawkes Bay: Sandi Hall
Eastland: Rev Frank NgatoroThe team is working towards building a strong network of youth leaders and youth ministry throughout the Diocese.
Our purpose is to encourage young people in their faith and knowledge of God, to build leadership skills, and spread the message that young people are valued as members of the Anglican Church and Diocese of Waiapu.
As well as our DYMF/RYMF team Waiapu has Parish based youth and children’s ministry leader’s.
Contact any of the Diocesan Youth Ministry team to find out about Youth Ministry happening near you.
Diocesan and Regional Events Include:
Top Parish: A great way to start off the new year by bringing together young people from all over the Diocese for a weekend of Competitive Games, ‘Waiapu’s Got Talent’ night and Sunday worship. Trophies are awarded to the Top Parish Junior and Senior teams, Fair Play Awards, March Past, Banner and Chant and the best acts for Waiapu’s Got Talent . Plus, who could forget the competitive individuals who put their names forward to be elected ‘Bishop for the Day’.
Anglicans@Parachute: What better way to enjoy Parachute Festival than being part of the Anglicans@Parachute Super Group made up of young people from all over New Zealand. Waiapu contributes by helping to set up the Anglican Super Group Base Camp and helping to feed hungry campers.
Waiapu youth just love Parachute Festival, so we fill a bus and join the Anglican Super Group team and the 25,000 other people who camp at Mystery Creek.
Youthtober: Every October Waiapu celebrates young people! This is a month for Parishes to focus on ministry to and from youth, in and around their communities and to encourage young people in leadership opportunities.
Summer Internships: Don’t know what to do in the Summer Holidays? Waiapu offers up to 4 young people the opportunity to take part in a summer internship. Summer Interns will be given the chance to visit different parts of the Diocese – Eastland, Hawkes Bay and Bay of Plenty. They will assist with running Holiday programmes, prepare and present a ‘road show’, learn how to preach a sermon and lot’s more. To finish off a great holiday, they help out at the Anglicans@Parachute Super Group camp site. Minimum age: 16 years
Year Long Youth Internship (YLYI): Ever thought about a Gap Year? The Year Long Youth Internship is for young people 18 years or older who have left school and want a chance to explore ministry or serve in a church environment. Placements are arranged in all 3 regions of the Diocese and young people are given many opportunities to explore many aspects of ministry and social service in Waiapu. They are also encouraged and supported to complete one Theology paper during the year. This is a great opportunity for the intern to discover more about themselves, their gifts and abilities, develop leadership skills and grow in their faith and understanding of God.
Youth Pilgrimage: The ‘Amazing Three Tikanga Youth Pilgrimage’ was hosted in Rotorua in 2009 and will be back again by popular demand! Keep the weekend of September 30, October 1st and 2nd free to attend this ‘amazing’ event.
Regional Youth Councils:
Each region has its own Youth Council, made up of youth from 14-25 years of age. The goal of youth councils is to give young people a ‘forum’ for expressing their views of church and living the Christian life in their communities and beyond. Youth Councils help organise regional youth events and youth services. They also can put ‘motions’ to Youth Synod and in turn to Diocesan Synod. For more information about Youth Councils in your region contact your local RYMF as above.
Waiapu Youth Synod – September 3rd and 4th 2011, Taupo
This is an annual event and runs alongside the Waiapu Diocesan Synod. Representatives from the Regional Youth Councils attend and discuss issues relevant to them, the church and wider community. Regional Youth Synod reps put relevant motions to Diocesan Synod.
National Anglican Youth Forum – Tikanga Pakeha; 18-22 July 2011 Ngatiawa, Waikanae
National Anglican Youth Forum happens each year in the first week of the July School Holidays. In 2011 Youth Forum will be held at Nga te awa, in Waikanae. The purpose for Forum is to provide a space for young people (representatives from each diocese - 15yrs to young adults) to be a voice on key issues, act on ideas, develop skills and form a closer relationship with God.
