Vacancy for Vicar of the Anglican Parish of Mount Maunganui

Bishop Andrew Hedge is looking to appoint a priest to this thriving Bay of Plenty Parish situated on the coast at the base of Mauao between the ocean and Tauranga harbour.  The parish has two worship centres, two childcare centres, an Op Shop and a wide range of parish and community-facing activities. It has served the local community since the early 20th Century, and continues to do so in this fast-growing part of New Zealand. The parish has a significant choir ministry at St Peter’s.   This position is for a fulltime vicar.

The person the parish seeks for this role as vicar needs to:

  • be energetic
  • have proven leadership skills with a willingness to develop a team
  • be a good communicator, enabler and encourager, with the ability to think and work laterally
  • be orientated towards children and young people and able to engage with the childcare centres and develop relationships which will develop a children and families ministry
  • have a strong liturgical grounding able to meet a wide range of styles from the more traditional at St  Peter’s and the more contemporary at St Mary’s.
  • be able to engage with a wide range of music styles
  • encourage the parish in its engagement with its wider community
  • be able to show genuine interest in people and the life of the parish
  • be a person of forward vision
  • have an open theological perspective
  • be a warm and friendly personality.
