21 February

The Hebenton Family about to come forward for John to be presented to the Bishop to be installed as vicar.

A full church gathered to see The Rev’d John Hebenton installed as the Vicar of St George’s Gate Pa on Monday evening. The ‘pre-match’ function had a carnival “Mardi Gras” atmosphere with pancakes, colourful hats and beads worn by many.

Friends and family had come from as far afield as Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland and New Plymouth, and the Hawke’s Bay, as well as more locally to support John, Bonnie and Kate, Michael and Rebekah. Many came because of their long-time association with John in his role as the Anglican Youth Network Facilitator – Tikanga Pakeha, a role he has held for the last 7 years. In fact John has been working with youth for the larger part of his ordained ministry, and said he is looking forward with excitement to now “doing some vicar-ing”
