Youth Pilgrimage 2007
Camping @ Parachute 2008
Girls @ Parachute 2008
Waiapu now has a Diocesan Youth Ministry team consisting of Jocelyn Czerwonka (Diocesan Youth Ministry Facilitator – DYMF) and 3 Regional Youth Ministry Facilitator’s; Jo Keogan Bay of Plenty, Jo Crosse in Hawkes Bay and Frank Ngatoro in Eastland. The team is working towards building a strong network of youth leaders and youth ministry throughout the Diocese. Our purpose is to encourage young people in their faith and knowledge of God and to know that they are valued as members of the Anglican Church and Diocese of Waiapu.
Contact any of the Diocesan Youth Ministry team to find out about Youth Ministry happening near you.
Diocesan and Regional Events Include:
Top Parish: What better way to start off the new year than bringing together young people from all over the Diocese for a weekend of Competitive Games, Concert Items and Sunday worship. Trophies are awarded to the Top Parish Junior and Senior teams, March Past and Chant and the Best Performance items at Concert.
Parachute Festival: Waiapu youth just love Parachute Festival, so we fill a bus and join the 25,000 other people who camp at Mystery Creek.
Who Dunnit?: - in Hawkes Bay and Bay of Plenty – teams gather from the region to solve the mystery and hopefully take away the Who Dunnit? prize.
This years dates: Bay of Plenty – August 30th Mt Maunganui
Hawke’s Bay – September 6th St Luke’s Havelock North
Regional Youth Services: Each region aims to host a Regional Youth Service at least once a term – good music, good message, good worship, all organised by the local youth councils.
Youth Pilgrimage: Our first Youth pilgrimage was held in 2007 with Bishop John. Young people gathered from all over the Diocese to stay at Ohinemutu Marae on the water edge of Lake Rotorua. A 4 am start on the Saturday had us climbing into the crater of Mt Tarawera before gathering together for a dawn service. The luge, worship, good food and new friends were all part of the weekend too. Our next Youth Pilgrimage will be in 2009.
Regional Youth Councils
Each region has its own Youth Council, made up of youth from 14-25 years of age. The goal of youth councils is to give young people a ‘forum’ for expressing their views of church and living the Christian life in their communities and beyond. Youth Councils help organise regional youth events and youth services. They also can put ‘motions’ to Youth Synod and in turn to Diocesan Synod. For more information about Youth Councils in your region contact your local RYMF as above.
Waiapu Youth Synod – September 27-29 2008
This is an annual event and runs alongside the Waiapu Diocesan Synod. Representatives from the Regional Youth Councils attend and discuss issues relevant to them, the church and wider community. Regional Youth Synod reps put relevant motions to Diocesan Synod.
National Anglican Youth Forum – Tikanga Pakeha
National Anglican Youth Forum happens each year in the first week of the July School Holidays. In 2009 Youth Forum will be held in Auckland. The purpose for Forum is to provide a space for young people (representatives from each diocese - 15yrs to young adults) to be a voice on key issues, act on ideas, develop skills and form a closer relationship with God.
