Parish of Havelock North
St Luke’s, Havelock North is a strong and self-confident parish serving one of the two wealthiest communities in Hawke’s Bay. Havelock North Village has a clear sense of community, and St Luke’s is a part of that community. It works to cater for all ages in its worship, and has an OSCAR programme for children after school. It has managed to link good modern meeting facilities to a traditional church.

Monday – Friday – 9.00am Morning Prayer

Thursday - 10.00am Eucharist

Reflects broad church tradition; most services use NZ Prayer Book but there is also an informal all-age service and 1662 Communion services (60-90min); music straddles old and new; preaching seen as parish priority.

Ethos: Common purpose and mission even though parishioners come from diverse backgrounds; parish tries to situate itself at the spiritual heart of Havelock North; largeness of parish means it’s easy to be inconspicuous but impossible to be anonymous.

Ethnicity:  Mainly Pakeha with diverse mix of cultural and national groups; some Te Reo Maori in services.

Children/youth:  Major priority for parish. Kidstime during 9.30am main Sunday service; other programmes throughout week including pre-school music and after-school care.

Social:  Morning tea after 9.30am service each Sunday; special parish events happen throughout the year.

Training: Range of opportunities for further study available throughout Anglican Network.

Outreach: After-school programme every weekday of term; Holiday Programmes, Mission Guild supports local and overseas missions, particularly through Op Shop. Association of Anglican Women support mission overseas and over the fence.

Highlights: Christmas and Easter, including 3hr service on Good Friday; St Luke’s Day; Parish Fair, Village Fiesta, All Saint's Day.

Other:  Parish covers large area and incorporates satellite church of St Stephen, Elsthorpe which offers services as well as Christmas and Easter worship; Mangakuri Chapel offers services during the year.
