Parish of Te Puke

St John the Baptist Church is the centre of this small country parish serving a large rural hinterland.  Its worship is traditional with openness to a more contemporary style and child-friendly services.  The parish engages with its Community through its Opportunity Shop and various programmes.

Sunday - 8am: Eucharist and hymns. 10.00am: Family Eucharist
Wednesday - 10.30am: Eucharist

Ethos: Family church with this mission statement: “With Jesus Reaching People." Various services with Roman Catholic and Tikanga Maori.

Ethnicity: Mainly Pakeha; Te Reo encouraged.
Children: Children welcomed as part of the services.

Social: Morning tea after 10.00am service; parish pot-luck luncheons/dinners; morning tea before Wednesday service; Community Care Shop has morning/afternoon teas for staff plus one dinner a year.

Outreach: Community Care Shop supports individuals and groups in Te Puke; 'Growing Through Grief'.  Close contact with all the retirement homes in area.  Provides chaplain to Carter House.  Close contact with the Kauris Centre which provides day activities for the elderly.

Highlights: Advent & Ash Wednesday services with Roman Catholics & Tikanga Maori; Christmas services; Holy Week; Blessing of pets service for St Francis Day.
